My 1st Blog

Well this is it. Here it is. The first blog to have ever come from my head and onto keyboard. I think for this first blog (which I'm sure will not be the first of this type) will be about Animal Cruelty. Just about everyday (usually from ASPCA emails) I hear about a new case of people abusing animals and it makes me so mad I would like to throw people out the window and run them over... 3 times. Today I heard about Cheyenne Cherry..The girl who got into a fight with her roommate then invited her friend over only to cook, yes COOK the roommate's kitten to death and to trash the roommates room.

I don't get things like this.. Whatever happened to friendly car keyings and nasty notes.. At least those don't involve killing innocent bystanders that weigh 5 ounces. Also, if you've never heard of Kenny Glenn google it- He posted videos of himself and his brother on YouTube beating and torturing his family pet, Dusty the Cat, only to go 'missing' from the internet after getting in trouble with the law. It was guessed that after he was arrested, his father (friend w/ the judge) got his son out of trouble. Kenny's facebook and myspace posts days after everyone at school found out claimed that he had it horrible and everyone was mean to him... I'm glad he wasn't Dusty the Cat.. I wonder how much he'd complain then. Even more frustrating than Kenny was Kenny's parents.... Did you not notice that your cat cried everytime you touched it or petted it?? Did you not notice how it curled up in corners or ran away and hid when you tried to pet it?? Animal Cruelty is NOT a joke!!

The link between animal abusers and murderers is known and is easily seen everywhere online and in the library (http://www.sussex-academic.co.uk/sa/titles/CulturalSocialStudies/Linzey.htm) . I think it is part of our duty as human beings (where we consider ourselves superior to animals) to not ACT like them-doing things without reason- and to act as superior as we think we are.. By putting an end to this one sided war against animals that have no ammunition other than people like me that speak when they can't be heard. • Do your part by donating money to help these organizations raise money to feed/water/treat sick and abused animals. If you can't donate money, donate supplies such as newspaper, plastic bags, pet food, old towels, old blankets WHATEVER!! Also, you can donate your time by visiting local shelters and volunteer with the animals.. If nothing else, at least its a way to relieve some stress by cuddling up to a cute puppy or kitten!! :) My favorite shelter in the area is the Fayetteville Animal Shelter. If you are in the NWA area, check 'em out by stopping by the shelter, their website, or their facebook page.
  
• Do your part by spaying and neutering your pets (It is estimated that an average of 6-8 million cats and dogs are put in shelters each year, with 3-4 million being euthanized and the other 3-4 million being adopted.) Spaying a cat in Arkansas costs roughly $90-100 and Neutering a cat in Arkansas costs about $50-60. These numbers can decrease substantially if you qualify and apply for the Low Cost Spay-Neuter programs that are offered at shelters around the United States.
  
• Do your part by adopting a kitten or puppy from a shelter instead of a breeder or pet shop. Breeders do nothing more than increase numbers of animals in the United States, which (not on purpose) makes shelters have to euthanize shelter animals because they don't have enough room. Think about it- If breeders breed and create 500,000 new dogs this year, that's 500,000 people going to breeders/pets stores to buy 500,000 new dogs and 500,000 dogs that didn't get adopted and may have to be euthanized because they didn't get adopted.
• Do your part by reporting animal abuse to the authorities, even if you think it may have been only once...It only takes one time for an animal to be hurt.
• Do your part and take the sign the Animal Bill of Rights and send it to your congressperson http://org2.democracyinaction.org/o/5154/t/3755/petition.jsp?petition_KEY=82 .
  
• Do your part by writing the government to make animal abuse punishments tougher. If you had no morals and were mad at someone would you hurt them if you had to pay $100... Maybe.. Now if you had no morals and were mad at that same person, would you hurt them if you knew you'd get put in jail for 20 years..Probably not! According to Arkansas State Laws, if you have abused or KILLED a cat in Arkansas two times already and are found guilty again, you will have to pay a fine between $900-$1000 and "potentially" serve a jail sentence of 1-3 years. Not that bad considering you killed 3 innocent animals. This is ridiculous. Cheyenne Cherry (the girl who cooked the kitten in the oven) may go to jail for 1-3 years and can't own a pet for 3 years, but after that she can get a pet, which is stupid. Tell the government that this is silly and that there ARE NO NEGATIVE EFFECTS of harsher cruelty laws!! The only effect of it would be (more than likely) less animal cruelty cases.

Look at this face and tell me, does he deserve to die of sickness or abuse?! I don't think so!
